Chalk this one up as truly one of the most bizarre book I've ever read. With a scene that actually made me nauseous and Mona, the main character who knocks incessantly on wood, this is not quirky. I like quirky - this is just blasted weird. With one of the most amazing prologues I've ever read (it's worth reading just for this), I'm not sure where the author took me - but it was someplace. Here are just a few things to help me describe the book: an obsession with numbers, math, 2nd graders, a science teacher, a mysterious illness and an ax. Maybe I need a few more days to digest this - but I read the last few pages eagerly, thinking I was going to "get it" and I stared at the book in utter confusion when I read the last word. Can I recommend it? Yes. Would I recommend it? Mmmm..... Who here would like it? Well, I'd love to see the Rev's take on it all; Fanoula, Ann Elizabeth (where the hell is she anyway?) and possibly Ee Lin and Bonnie. Did it hold my interest? Absolutely. Well written? Without a doubt.
