This is the story of a volcano, including some natural history, prior eruptions, cartography, history of the Dutch colony with headquarters at Batavia (aka Jakarta), and a volanic explosion in 1883 that was heard 2,968 miles away, caused world wide barometric pressure changes, and killed around 25,000 people. And shows the volcanic island in process, Anak Krakatoa (son of Krakatoa), currently rising from the ocean at a rate of 5" per week.
