Those who enjoyed Plainsong will likely enjoy this one also. I think Haruf's writing is simply breathtaking at times - he elicits emotion from his reader without gimmicks or overt ploys and several times I was unexpectedly moved to tears by the story. It continues to follow the lives of the McPheron brothers and introduces a new set of characters that are compelling in their own way.
