Caroline Winters' search for her missing sister is the focus of Amanda Eyre Ward's second novel, How To Be Lost - a somewhat pedestrian story that is primarily a testimony to the power of hope and the value of commitment to family. Nothing extraordinary happens in this book and the outcome is somewhat predictable but I liked it anyhow and read it in a little under a day. Ward's ability to create realistic and sympathetic characters stands out and I enjoy the way she seamlessly allows the story to unfold. I'd previously read and enjoyed Ward's first effort, Sleep Toward Heaven, and I wasn't disappointed by this one.
