I just finished reading the newest Jane Hamilton book, DISOBEDIENCE, and wouldn't recommend it very highly. Especially not in hardcover if one is buying it. Or maybe not even in softcover unless it's at one of those library fill the bag sales. :) The narrator is a teenage boy who inadvertently discovers via his mom's email that she's having an affair. The book moves very slowly and somehow Hamilton creates a distance between her main character and the reader that is never quite overcome. I rated it a 3.5 -- primarily because the book somewhat redeems itself in the last quarter and well, because even though I didn't really enjoy the story itself, I still like the way Hamilton writes.
