First Cuckoo: Letters to the Times 1900-1980Kenneth Gregory |

The First Cuckoo was quite interesting. Letters to the London Times from 1900 to 1975. The editor made what I think were pretty interesting selections. A wide range of topics, from bird watching to war, soccer to fashion, were covered. Generational issues were in letters presented about every 15 years, and the older generation always deplored change in fashion, music, education, whatever. Interesting to also view the change in view in social issues over time, at local, national, and international levels. British 'hooligans' were deplored at soccer games in Rhodesia as early as the early '70s, something that continues to be a black eye for the Brits. On the whole, for those who like letter collections, I think this would be of interest.
