Education in the 70s: Hope on the HorizonArnold R. Pinkney |

Reading this some thirty years later is both highly amusing and downright terrifying. Looking at the condition of the greater Cleveland school systems today, I knew it was going to be amusing; any hope Mr. Pinkney might have seen in 1973 has gone by the wayside long, long ago. It's terrifying, on the other hand, because the same things Pinkney was pushing for back in 1973 are the things people are still pushing for today (read: more government funding). It's obvious to anyone with half a brain and a single functioning cone somewhere in their retinas that it's not the answer by now, isn't it? Here's a perfect, functioning time-capsule example of how badly it's failed. And yet people refuse to learn. We wonder why the American educational system has gone into the toilet?
