The Ultimate Haunted House

Gahan Wilson

New work by Gahan Wilson is always a treat. New work by Gahan Wilson coupled with stories it inspired from some of America's best writers (and one expatriate Brit) should be raising the highest of expectations. And The Ultimate Haunted House delivers on a regular basis.

Wilson drew a picture of a thirteen-room house, cut it up, sent a room to each of the authors, and asked for a story. Aside from needing to use the picture, no other guidance was given. The result is thirteen wonderful haunted house stories from thirteen authors, some established masters (T.E.D. Klein, Kathe Koja, et al.), some rising stars (Anya Martin, Steve Antczak, et al.), and one criminally underrated author (Melissa Mia Hall). There's some slight inconsistency in quality, but far less than in most anthologies, and this bunch keeps the humor and horror balance right in place throughout. A durned good book o' haunted house stories, and Gahan Wilson drawings to boot.
