The Bluest Eye

Toni Morrison

Purchase this title at B&N

I just finished listening to The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. She read it along with Ruby Dee. I have read two of her books and listened to a third. I count myself as a fan.

However, this book ... when it wasn't annoying was irritating; when it wasn't irritating, it was annoying. Which reaction to choose preoccupied me. I need to stop using audio books to motivate me to go to the gym because I'm developing a hatred of driving and becoming a recluse .

A minor part of the problem was with the reading which was unexpected. I had listened to Morrison read Jazz some years back and liked her rendering. But this one she read in a slow, ominous candence that sounded as though she was delivering the Ten Commandments (I did look around to see if Moses was in the back seat).

I'll still read others by her but next time it's back to type that you can skim when needed.
