Destined for Destiny: The Unauthorized Autobiography of George W. Bush

Scott Dikkers &
Peter Hilleren

Making fun of George Bush is easy. Not just because hem, like Dan Quayle and Al Gore before him, has made it so blessedly simple, but also because we've had seven years to hone the process. And, succinctly, it's gotten old.

Admittedly, it's a good attempt. The writing style is reminiscent of Bush's oratory. But Dikkers and Hilleren are treading the same old ground, even if they do it with more wit and panache than most of their Bush-bashing contemporaries. There's nothing in here the Bush critic with his ear to the ground doesn't already know.

I kept thinking to myself, "if you're going to go to this length to write a book that purports to be shrubjr's autobiography, wouldn't it have been a whole lot funnier to actually use disembodied quotes from his speeches-- and then attribute them all?"
