From The Corner of His Eye

Dean Koontz

Purchase this title at B&N

On January 6, 1965 Bartholomew Lampion is born in Bright Beach, CA amid a family tragedy. On this same day, a ruthless man kills his wife and learnms he has a mortal enemy named Bartholomew. This day also marks the birth of Angel White, the result of a violent rape. These three lives will eventually intersect and change the world for the people they love.

This premise starts slowly as Koontz bounces back and forth between the three stories. The chapters are too small and switch too frequently to allow the reader to get into the flow of the story. Eventually, the chapters lengthen and the story flows more smoothly. All three stories are equally compelling and it isn't until the middle of the book that you realize that this world is not quite like ours.

The climax of Cain's hunt for Bartholomew is too short and ends too conveniently, but then Koontz uses the next 20 pages to focus on the true reason why Barty and Angel were brought together. Overall a very compelling and interesting read.
