The Master of all Desires, by Judith Merkle Riley was a wonderful romp through 1556 Paris. Sibille, the oldest child of an undistinguished family, comes into possession of Menander the Undying's head. This is no ordinary mummy, for it grants wishes and spreads evil with great gusto. The infamous prophet Nostradamus meets Sibille while travelling, and is caught up in the intrigue as well (he comes alive like never before, and has a wicked sense of humour). Sibille's story of trying to rid herself of the head, attempting to become a published author, and finding true love while history whirls around her is one not easily forgotten. Highly recommended.
