The Crossing

Cormac McCarthy

Purchase this title at B&N

Hey those of you who've read Cormac McCarthy's The Crossing. I'm about halfway through and it's really dragging a bit. This one just didn't capture my interest as readily as All The Pretty Horses. Most of the first half is about one character and there's hardly any dialogue. And McCarthy spends so much time describing the actions step-by-step, including roping an animal with such technical terms that I just can't visualize the scenario at all. At this stage, I'm about to give up on it, because I'm just uninvolved with the character and the story. The significant event in the first half has occurred, but I think my detachment from the story has prevented me from being captured by it.
