Prodigal Summer

Barbara Kingsolver

Purchase this title at B&N

I have really mixed feelings about this novel - I enjoyed the individual stories, and I learned much about biology, etc., but I often felt like I was being lectured, and it just didn't sit well. So much of the dialogue seemed straight from a university course...and I understand, from reading the back flap, that Kingsolver and husband are very involved in science writing. I think she had a great idea of how to get some important scientific/agricultural facts out to the public, and I hope for that alone that PS is a bestseller, but it fell short of being a complete story for me. That said, it contained some of the best descriptions of nature that I have ever read.
