So after hearing many wonderful things about Lehane, I cracked the cover on my first experience with him Friday night. I finished it Sunday afternoon, exhausted. This is a seriously good book. Lehane brings back the detective team from his first novel, and as with most serials, there is baggage afoot, but none of it detracted from enjoying this tale. The pages whip by as Patrick and Angela find themselves looking for someone or someones stalking the son of a friend of a friend; things get complicated when the person who tipped the FOAF that her son was in danger turns up dead. Also as with all serials, most everything gets wrapped up at the end, with a few exceptions that are no doubt left for the next book in the series to take up. No complaints, though; after twenty-five years of Robert Parker novels, mystery fans should be used to it by now.
