The beginning is deceptively simple and filled with much food - the words alone are enough to make your mouth water. But underneath that French cooking lies the tension of the German occupation of France, and the children of the family quickly become involved in something far beyond their comprehension. A rivetting novel, with wonderful movement of time throughout the story.
