Earlier this week I finished Burning Road, by Ann Benson, a sequal to The Plague Tales. I'm a sucker for Black Death books :). Both books follow parallel stories: Janie Crow is our hero in the near future after a pandemic has struck and changed the world, somewhat. Alejandro Canches is our hero in the 13th century, a Jewish physician who ended up disguised and trying to save the British royals from the plague. Burning Road picks up Janie's story about a year later and Alejandro's 10 years later. Plague Tales is the better book, but Burning Road kept me involved and interested in the new medical/social/political dilemnas of our heroes. I felt the end of the novel was not so well done and a bit obscure, but I'd read a 3rd one.
