The Stones are Hatching

Geraldine McCaughrean

Purchase this title at B&N

Much more engrossing than When Zachary Beaver Came to Town was the BOT of The Stones are Hatching by Geraldine McCaughrean (no idea how to pronounce THAT) about 11-year old Phinean Green who wakes up one morning to find his kitchen in disarray and populated by small, naked men and women who think he is the mythical Jack o'Green who can save the world now that the bombs of WWI have awoken the Stoor Worm and her children, the Hatchlings--all the bogey men in British mythology. Not being an expert on that and being a visual type, I wanted to see how you spelled some of these creatures and hope the book has a glossary or something. Despite not being able to visualize all the baddies (or even the good old Obby Orse), Ethan and I enjoyed it immensely. A good coming of age, magical story.
