Dreamcatcher

Stephen King

Purchase this title at B&N

Well, I finished Dreamcatcher. Did I like it? I did...primarily because of the storytelling ability of King.

You see, I am just not interested in UFO's, alien abduction, alien invasion, etc. stories, and I was more than a bit sceptical upon starting the book.

So, beyond having finished it, how do I know I liked it? Well, I started out owning the book. At a time when I was just entering the 400s in page numbers, I left the damned thing on the bus. I IMMEDIATELY went to the library and borrowed a copy. Obviously, I needed and was driven to finishing it!

In terms of the story, it reminded me very much of IT. Same basic plotline with a group of adults who shared a similar adolescent experience -- which has largely been "forgotten" -- and who maintain a friendship into adulthood largely based on this common thread in their lives.

I think I would have liked IT better had King tied it together with something more like the dreamcatcher idea rather than a giant spider. Nonetheless, I enjoyed IT overall as well.
