This is the true account of an SAS mission in Iraq during the Gulf War which goes unexpectedly and disastrously wrong. The reader is quickly whisked into the action and soon feels like a member of the stricken patrol. It reads like a hi-octane thriller, in fact even more so, since this is the real deal. The charge is often levelled at the movie industry that their action products are too violent. Believe me, they are nothing compared to the reality. The movies feature actors and special effects. This memoir features real men who, captured and taken to Baghdad, are subjected to beatings, torture and degradation of a kind which would defy belief were it not for the fact that they actually happened. (I must get round to seeing the flick.) This is a fantastic memoir of courage, companionship, bravery and above all an indomitable will to survive. Well worth a read, even - or perhaps especially - if you're not a military buff.
