Read this in (you guessed it) Shanghai, Jinan and Beijing. Quite an interesting history of Shanghai -- China's window to the west for many years. Picked it up largely on the strength of the jacket blurb, which quotes an anonomous missionary: "if God let's Shanghai go unpunished he owes an apology to Sodom and Gomorrah". One of the original sin cities, this was an eye opening read.
