For all their lives David Beck and his new bride Elizabeth have know they belonged together, from their first meeting at age seven thru high school and college. That is until, while enjoying a moonlight swim on his grandfather's property, Elizabeth is abducted and murdered by a serial killer. Or was she? For eight long years pediatrician David Beck thinks so, and mourns his loss every day. Until, on the day before the anniversary of their first kiss, he receives a cryptic email with a link to a webcam. When he accesses this link, there she is, alive. Or is she? After unearthing new evidence, the FBI is convinced Dr.Beck killed his wife. But he's equally convinced she's still alive. Both are determined to find the truth. Will David find his wife? Or will he end up in jail for her murder? Enlisting the help of friends and assorted characters (is it me or do mystery/thriller writers lately have the need to insert random quirky characters, instead of just using "normal" people) including his lesbian sister and her girlfriend the plus size model, a gold-toothed crack dealer whose blind, hemophiliac son is a patient, the talk show lawyer and bearded collie "Chloe" to keep him alive, and out of the hands of the law and away from the bad guy billioniare and his hired thugs (who include a heavily pierced and tattooed Asian whose hands are lethal weapons, and a heavy set man with a "bad comb over")long enough for him to find out the truth about Elizabeth's life or death. I enjoyed this one, read it over my lunch hour today.
