Blessings

Anna Quindlen

Purchase this title at B&N

I just now finished reading Blessings by Anna Quindlen and I think I liked it a bit more than Fanoula perhaps. As Fanoula mentioned, it did take a while to find a rhythm with the book but once that happened, I found myself totally captivated by the story. Not only did I find the story of the matriarch provocative but I was charmed by the story of the caretaker and baby and agree with the marketing blurbs that describe the story as heart-warming. Yeah, there is an initial decision that stretches the imagination a bit but I didn't find any of that cloying at all and it was that, coupled with the larger theme, that prompted me to not want to put the book down. Fortunately, everyone here was otherwise occupied this afternoon so circumstances permitted me to pretty much read the bulk of the book in one sitting. I rated it a 4.5 - not the best book I've read this year, and certainly not the most literary, but one I'll not soon forget.
