Ms. Bruce starts in the Introduction with "I am an openly gay, pro-choice, gun owning, pro-death penalty, liberal, voted-for-Reagan feminist". Ya gotta luv it. This book touches on a wide range of troublilng issues that boil down to silencing of ideas that are not the "norm" as defined by liberals. The case is made with specific examples using Ms. Bruce's experience as a PR specialist and the President of the LA chapter of NOW for a six year period in the '90s. An uabashed liberal, her complaint is that rather than credibly defending their positions, the left uses smear and near terror tactics to silence "enemies", even when the so-called enemies are simply stating an opinion that the left doesn't agree with. From page 210: "The Left implements speech and mind control because they know they cannot truly persuade on the issuessliencing their opposition becomes their only recourse". While I'm not certain these tactics are used only by the left, she clearly believes that the left has greater success using these tactics. Rev - I'm certain you would love this book. Everyone should read it.
