Breathing Lessons

Anne Tyler

Purchase this title at B&N

I found Anne Tyler's Breathing Lessons thoroughly enjoyable - poignant and, in its own way, sad. Maggie and her husband Ira are a middle-aged couple whose marriage has been challenged in all of the typical ways and yet Tyler manages to somehow make their story seem anything but ordinary. I loved the characterizations in this book and thought them realistic and engaging. I've read several books that Tyler has written (Dinner At The Homesick Restaurant, The Accidental Tourist, A Patchwork Planet, Ladder of Years, Back When We Were Grownups) and I count this one as a favorite. I'd definitely recommend it and rated it a 4.5.
