Part writing how-to book, part reflections on life, this book didn't appeal to me as much as I'd thought it would. Within its pages, Lamott shares that she's essentially re-creating what she teaches in her writing classes and I couldn't help but think it has to be infinitely more interesting in person. ;-) I think it was supposed to be a humorous book but obviously my use of the word "supposed" reveals that her humor escapes me for the most part. Additionally, I thought the book somewhat redundant - again, something that might not have been nearly as annoying were it presented in person. I rated the book a 3.5 and that was being charitable. Late last year I read Lamott's Blue Shoe and wasn't overly enthused about it either. I'm now thinking we simply don't get along. ;-)
