Brilliant! I was very impressed by the way Safran Foer (a very young guy) wrote this book. Very surreal, lots of humour and very very tragic at the same time. The story about the quest by a young jewish american for the girl who was befriend with his grandfather during the war in the Oekraine and all the substories were woven together beautifully. The sub-story about his Russian translator Alex, who's letters to Jonathan are outright hylarious, with his very funny accent. But also with an underlying tragedy of his own. The history of Jonathan's family in the very small village were totally surreal. This book feels like a legend being told about people and places, emotions and horror which no longer exist in that way, chapeau! I rat it **** .
